THE ISSUE: The Smith College Pioneers required a high-performance pitch with turf that could meet the specifications of Division III field hockey, but would be versatile enough to be used for other women’s sports.
THE JOB: The general contractor on the job, Clark Companies, recommended that the Pioneers chose Sports Construction Group because of its reputation as the go-to builder of field hockey pitches and its installation expertise. SCG installed the e-layer pad and Shaw Sportexe VictoryTurf, a dual fiber synthetic turf system designed to provide balanced performance for multiple sports. The work was done with a quick turnaround, particularly for a totally glued system. |
THE RESULTS: "We waited 8 years to get our first artificial turf field. It has been well worth the wait. The work of Sports Construction Group and Clark Companies made the building process go as smooth as possible,” said Lynn Oberbillig, Smith College athletic director. “In fact, I was able to relax and let them tell me what we needed because they always had our best interest in mind. Our teams are improving quickly with the new turf field and I look forward to the years to come to watch us improve dramatically."
