Cleveland-based Sports Construction Group LLC (SCG), a constructor and installer of natural and synthetic athletic sports fields, had plenty to cheer about during this year’s World Series. The American League New York Yankees and the National League Philadelphia Phillies both competed on high performance sports fields installed by the company, continuing SCG’s tradition of building championship fields for championship teams.

Constructing a field for the Yankees, one of the most famous franchises in sports, could be an intimidating task, but SCG rose to the challenge. This year, the Yankees ran onto the field in a new stadium for the first time since 1923, a field installed by SCG. The Bronx Bombers had a winning season while playing on the turf, clinching its division title and winning the World Series. However, this was not the first time the Yankees played on the company’s sod. SCG also replaced the turf at the old Yankee Stadium in 2001. 

In 2004, the Phillies opened their season at Citizens Bank Park, leaving Veterans Stadium after 30 years. SCG installed the field at the new park, which includes 100,000 square feet of Kentucky blue grass. Success seems to follow SCG high-performance fields, and in 2008 Philadelphia celebrated its first World Series championship since 1980.

Including these two storied franchises, SCG’s client roster consists of one-fifth of Major League Baseball teams.
