The Issue: Penn State needed a new field hockey facility to accommodate the school’s Division I field hockey team.
The Job: SCG was chosen to act as general contractor for the project and was responsible for preparing the site, developing the sub base and implementing a sophisticated drainage system fundamental to high performance field hockey fields. SCG was also in charge of managing the installation of an AstroTurf surface.

The Results: “We have the nicest field hockey facility in the country as far as I’m concerned,” said Char Moett, Penn State head field hockey coach. “I’m raving about the field – and there are many things to rave about. The sub base, the padding, the draining system, wow,” she said. Moett also mentioned how impressed she was by the diligence of the SCG team, as they often worked through un-cooperating weather conditions, to get the job done on schedule. “Working with one company to manage the entire project was ideal – and cost efficient,” said Marv Bevan, project manager of design and construction for the Penn State Office of Physical Plant. “They started on time, the job was completed on time and the company was great to work with,” he said.
