SCG History

Company History

Merging a 47-year construction history with today’s technology — and an unsurpassed drive for perfection — has and continues to make Sports Construction Group the choice of champions.

Our roots began as family-owned S.W. Franks Construction Co. (Cleveland, Ohio), a general highway heavy site construction firm. In 1987 Paul Franks became president of the company.

Shortly thereafter S.W. Franks secured its first professional sports field installation: Jacob’s Field, home of the Cleveland Indians. The stadium acted as a springboard for the company as it began focusing on high performance sport field installations, including:

  • Arrowhead Stadium - Kansas City Chiefs
  • Kauffman Stadium - Kansas City Royals
  • Notre Dame Stadium - Fighting Irish
  • Cleveland Municipal Stadium - Cleveland Browns
  • Heinz Field - Pittsburgh Steelers
  • M&T Bank Stadium - Baltimore Ravens
  • Shea Stadium - New York Mets
  • Yankee Stadium - New York Yankees
  • Soldier Field - Chicago Bears
  • And numerous others…

In 1998, S.W. Franks joined Southwest Recreational Industries (later named SRI Sports), continuing the Franks legacy of high quality sport field construction.

Six years later Paul and other key personnel from the S.W. Franks division of SRI Sports formed Sports Construction Group, L.L.C., purchasing the S.W. Franks name back.

Since then SCG has added a synthetic turf division with Jim Savoca and other long-time turf veterans assisting customers in choosing the right systems for their needs.

Today SCG is an employee-owned business directed by Paul Franks and headquartered in Cleveland (with an office in Texas). Each member of the staff focuses sport-specific and general contracting expertise on building great field systems at all levels — professional, collegiate, high school and community.
